Stain & odour removal FAQs

  • *Can you remove all types of stains?

We specialise in treating a wide range of stains, but some may be permanent, especially if other solutions have been used.

We’ll assess the stain and let you know the likelihood of removal before starting.

In many cases, treating the stain can still improve its appearance by lightening its colour or reducing its spread.

  • What types of stains do you treat?

We love a good challenge, so get in touch about whatever stains you have.

While some substances are known to permanently alter the colour of your carpet or furniture, these can sometimes be lightened and improved to a point that you’re happy with.

  • What are your top tips for managing a spill?

Old stains are harder to remove so the sooner you can attend to the spill the better.

For pollen, printer toner, liquid ink, paint or oil  DO NOT follow the instructions listed below; instead, refer to the What about pollen, printer toner, liquid ink, paint, and oil? FAQ below.

For most other common spills and accidents:

    1. Scrape off  solid matter with the back of a small knife, scraping towards the centre of the spill, taking care not to push solids or liquid further into the fibres.

For a liquid spill blot liquid carefully – with a white or clean cloth – to soak up as much as you can.

    2. To dilute a wet (fresh) spill, gently pour 250 - 500ml of warm water over the entire spill, dab with a towel (never scrub or rub at carpet), and then lay folded towels over the wet area.

    3. Walk over the towels for a couple of minutes to draw the water and the spilt liquid up into the towel together. Replace with dry towels as necessary and continue stepping on the area. Repeat with further small amounts of water and stepping until the water transferring into the towel is clear.

    4. If the liquid is cat or dog urine (and it's fresh), it's especially important to keep up the diluting and stepping for several minutes, to reduce the likelihood of it becoming smelly and leaving a noticeable stain.

    5. A tiny amount (a drop or two) of detergent can be added to the warm water, but be careful. Too much product can leave another stubborn stain or can be too difficult to flush out and the area will re-soil.

    6. And remember: never scrub or rub at carpet to remove a spill or stain. It may permanently damage the fibres and always be visible.

If you're unsure give us a call on 0800 566 576 for advice.

  • How much do stain treatments cost?

A stain treatment booking starts at $172.50 including GST.  This covers all our time spent on-site, up to around the first hour or so. If more time is needed, the cost will increase appropriately.

If a stain treatment service is booked but on arrival no work is carried out, either due to a client’s change of mind, or if we consider it so severe that real improvement is unlikely, a visit charge of $138 including GST is payable. We do all we can to avoid this by getting full details from you at the time of booking.

  • Can pet urine odours be eliminated?

    Usually, yes.

It can depend though on how many locations there are, and how often the pet returned and urinated there.

As well as topical treatments, sometimes carpet will need to be pulled back so that other affected surfaces can also be treated.

It can take time for these treatments to work. We recommend allowing a few days after treatment before concluding that the odour has gone.

  • What about pollen, printer toner, liquid ink, paint, and oil?

Do not add water or any liquid to these stains, nor domestic spot treatment products.

For pollen and printer toner, vacuum up loose pollen or toner by holding the vacuum hose pipe around 0.5 to 1 inch above the carpet, and move it back and forth above the affected area.  Don’t run the vacuum cleaner head over the area, nor drag the edge of the hose pipe over it. Remove what you can and call us if some remains.

For liquid ink, paint and oil spills gently blot only to absorb the excess, and call us or your insurer for next steps.

  • We may need to make an insurance claim. Can you help?

Yes, insurance companies are often very happy for us to provide you with the professional service you require.

We recommend you check with your insurer first.

We liaise directly with you on all matters, and receive payment from you at the time of service which can be deducted from your excess in the event of a claim.

If required, we provide a report on the damage and the work we carried out, and any relevant recommendations, which you can then provide to your insurer in the event of a claim.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

For your convenience and ours, we bring mobile Eftpos for payment at the time of service.

Payment can be made using debit or credit cards.

Non-PayWave debit card transactions are free.

Bank surcharge applies to PayWave and credit transactions.

Online payment can also be made at the time of service.

  • Why rug cleaning matters too!
